Speaker A Hi, I'm Herb Coplow. It's one of four trainers in the Global Organization Design Professional development program. I want to tell you what the program is about and what you can hope to gain from it. The program is real an introduction to design and management of organizations. The model we're coming from has been called over the years the Glacier Program, levels of Work, Stratified System Theory, and more recently, Requisite Organization. The name has changed and you will find if you're familiar with some of that material, you'll find some of the material we use uses different names for things. It doesn't matter as long as within your own company you use the same name consistently. So the purpose of this professional development program is to enable you to start practicing with this model of organization design and management. Whether you're a CEO, a VTHR, manager of a department within organization, or a consultant. The program itself consists of three phases. The first we'll call the Pre residential program. That two has a number of components. There are online videos. First, there's a questionnaire we would like you to fill out. Then really the heart of the pre residential program is material developed by Novus International that they've graciously allowed us to use in this program. We would like you to go through all of the modules in that ahead of time and complete and submit the questions that are within that material. There are additional readings and videos that you can take advantage of. There's also telephone support, tele seminars moderated by senior fellows from the society. We would appreciate if people come to the professional development in Calgary already having gone through that material so that you come with a basic knowledge and the telephone support is there to help you with any material that you may have problems or questions about. The residential program is of two parts. There's two days of training followed by a symposium of senior executives where you have an opportunity to see people who have actually put these ideas into practice. There are two reasons why we want to get together in face to face training. One of them is that I expect you probably have already some notions of what good organization is and what good management is. You're not coming into this training as blank slates. And while there is a lot to learn, there are also some things you'll probably have to unlearn, some beliefs you currently have about human capability, perhaps about whether hierarchy is a good or bad thing. And we find that face to face interaction is really useful when there are things that you need to explore and perhaps unlearn. The other focus of the face to face learning is going to be on implementation. We really want you to come out of those two days able to start implementing these ideas within your own organization or with your clients. After the residential program, there will be continued support against the videos and the readings will still be available from the website and there will be ongoing telephone support in telephone seminars, again to help you as you continue reading about these ideas and implementing them, there will be support from Senior Fellows of the Society. Two points I'd like to emphasize in conclusion, one of them is that these tools that we're training you in and you're going to learn very powerful and they can be used both for good and for not so good purposes. We really are going to have a strong ethical emphasis on this, as all of the senior fellows in the society really feel a strong obligation to keep the practice of these ideas ethical so that they're not used to do harm. And the second point I want to make is that we acknowledge that people have different learning styles and that's why we have readings and videos and telephone support and face to face, we really encourage you to make use of these learning materials as best suits your learning needs and your learning style.
